HedgeCo.Net — Legora, the Stockholm- and New York-based legal AI company, has raised a $550 million Series E at an $8.8 billion post-money valuation, up from $5.6 billion at its previous round six months earlier. Atreides Management led the financing, with new investors including Baron Capital, Capital Group, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Glade Brook Capital Partners and J.P. Morgan.
Every major existing investor also participated, including Accel, Benchmark, Bessemer Venture Partners, General Catalyst, ICONIQ, Insight Venture Partners, Menlo Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Salesforce Ventures and Sands Capital. The company said it built the round around investors with a long time horizon, mixing long-term public and crossover holders with strategic institutions that work with law firms and in-house legal teams.
The valuation rests on revenue growth. Legora said annual recurring revenue now stands at more than $200 million, after it went from $1 million to $100 million in less than 18 months and added the next $100 million in under six months. In April, when it announced a $50 million extension of its Series D, ARR was $100 million, TechCrunch reported. In-house legal teams made up more than 40% of new customers in the third quarter, and more than half of the AmLaw 50 are now customers in the United States, its largest market by revenue.
The capital will fund expansion across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific and further investment in the Legora aOS, its agentic operating system for legal work. The round lands a month after rival Harvey announced a $550 million raise at a $15.5 billion valuation, according to TechCrunch, setting up a two-company race at the top of legal AI. “Growth only counts if the business underneath it holds up,” said chief financial officer David Eckstein, pointing to gross margins and retention.
For venture and growth investors, the line-up is the signal. Mutual fund complexes and crossover managers such as Fidelity, Capital Group and Baron typically arrive late in a private company’s life, and their presence alongside a hedge fund-style lead like Atreides points to pre-IPO positioning. With valuations in application-layer AI repricing quickly, the test will be whether revenue durability keeps pace with a step-up of more than 50% in half a year.
